RITA ROW / AW22
Published

Rita Row's AW22 collection is inspired by the world of dance.
Named "CABARET MÉCANIQUE", it echoes the Bauhaus Ballet, also known as the Triadic Ballet. This experimental choreographic work was created by Oskar Schlemmer over 100 years ago. In 1916, this avant-garde concept aimed to spread the philosophy of the German school, which was extremely minimalist and functional, across Europe and the entire world.

Its "triadic" name refers to the three parts into which the work is divided, and to the three dancers who develop it into a mechanical-futuristic dance interpretation never achieved before.

Rita fell in love with Oskar Schlemmer's work. Schlemmer, who after starting out in the Bauhaus classrooms and shortly before becoming a teacher there, began to conceive of the human body as a new artistic medium. He believed that ballet had freed itself from the historical baggage of theater and opera and could thus present his ideas on choreographed geometry, man as a dancer, transformed by costume, moving through space.

Costume design was therefore an essential component of the Triadic Ballet. Schlemmer is known for building the performance from the dresses, which he called "figurines," and which composed visual plays of geometric shapes in different colors. He always based his creations on form and its functionality and drew from other Bauhaus disciplines to develop and create the concept of "mechanical cabaret."

His figurines determined the space and created the architecture, while at the same time dominating the performance, leaving behind the human body and its movements. Furthermore, the masks worn by the dancers turned them into anonymous characters, causing the abstraction of the individual.

This collection reflects this mechanical cabaret. It features playful and minimal patterns, with a special touch brought by the texture of exclusive fabrics and prints.

As usual for this collection, Rita Row has strived to maintain sourcing as sustainable as possible. Her goal is to have fair, safe, and healthy working and production conditions throughout the chain. She prioritizes an ethical process and products made from recycled and organic materials to minimize her environmental impact.

The philosophy of this AW22 collection embraces the art of blossoming, the art of searching for light, of comfortably turning towards the sunlight, towards one's own center.
