Baracuta joins forces with Wacko Maria and Needles to revisit its iconic G9 and G4 jackets.

BARACUTA x WACKO MARIA

Green revolution and avant-garde technical materials

For Autumn/Winter 21, Baracuta and Wacko Maria announce their collaboration, which will see the release of updated Baracuta icons, the G9 and G4 jackets. Both brands, the Japanese Wacko Maria and the British Baracuta, share values such as constant attention to manufacturing quality, thorough research and selection of fabrics and prints, and appreciation of Anglo-American culture, with a particular focus on cinema and music. The result is a 4-piece capsule collection that exudes a relaxed feel and an irreverent vibe. Like Baracuta, the Wacko Maria brand also revolves around culture and music, with different musical influences, and is inspired by Anglo-Saxon civilizations through cinema, architecture, and music.

All the collaborations that Wacko Maria engages in have one thing in common: beauty and music. Initially famous for its largely Hawaiian shirts, Wacko Maria was founded in 2005 by two former J-League soccer players, Keiji Ishizuka and Atsuhiko Mori. As with Baracuta, the brand's style is truly unique, as it combines various elements and different stylistic cultures to create something new and special every time. It often uses themes inspired by traditional Japanese prints, such as floral patterns, tigers, and two-dimensionality, which we can see as the recurring design in the Baracuta collaboration for the G9 and G4 jackets. Thus, on one hand, this collaboration pays tribute to Japanese and Anglo-Saxon culture, on the other it is heavily influenced and inspired by American streetwear, representing not only the fusion of pure fashion, but also of music, photography, and art.

BARACUTA x NEEDLES

Baracuta teams up with Japanese label Needles to reinterprete its iconic G9 jacket.

Baracuta's image is inseparable from Steve McQueen, as the latter was famous for wearing his jacket. For its part, Needles is also a huge fan of the actor, to the point that its logo is itself inspired by him—specifically, from the Butterfly tattoo on his chest in the 1973 thriller Papillon. It was therefore logical that the two brands would eventually collaborate. This is now done with this capsule collection consisting of corduroy G9 jackets adorned with a Paisley print in five colors.

While bold colors are the Needles touch, Baracuta is recognized by its iconic details: the Fraser tartan lining, the two-button collar, and the characteristic back yoke.
