WHY BOLD: Interview with Marie Genty, the initiator of this new retail collective

A year ago, Marie Genty conceived WHY BOLD, a new way of looking at retail and how it operates. Having met Marie several times at the showroom, we wanted her to tell us more about the collective she created and the initiatives she's implementing.

Hello Marie, could you briefly explain the concept behind Why Bold, the collective you launched a year ago?

Hello, and thank you for starting this conversation! The concept is based on sharing skills and the collective catalyst effect. Why Bold, our label, brings together independent players in the fashion industry, designers recognized in the market, who, together, combine resources to coordinate activities such as monitoring, curation, trade marketing, communication, events, and training. The idea is to amplify collaboration with brands, raise the level of expertise of teams to deliver an impactful experience to end customers, and optimize store performance.

How did you come up with this new way of reimagining retail?

I've always been drawn to the value of collaborative models. I've observed that the network of multi-brand fashion boutiques is very diverse, yet designers need to promote shared values ​​through their partners. I tried to understand the interdependence between brands and retailers, and I dared to suggest that this relationship could be improved! Having had the opportunity to experience the business challenges firsthand by leading the sales departments of various brands in European markets while cultivating strong relationships with retailers, I've amassed a wealth of information and resources that encourage reflection, especially when you have the energy to contribute to the evolution of your field. Finally, I felt it was time to propose a truly participatory approach and put relationships back at the heart of our business.

What are the highlights of this first year? What are you most proud of, and what setbacks have you encountered?

The people are undoubtedly the driving force behind this launch year. The richness of the exchanges and the synergy our group is developing are definitely promising! We have learned a great deal, and this, of course, by looking towards new ambitions and therefore, by confronting the reality of investments: optimizing a business struggling in an uncertain environment requires a commitment in terms of both dedicated time and necessary support. For now, we are particularly proud to have succeeded in delighting our clients by innovating and offering them an immersive experience through creative activations. Gaining the support of brands, being noticed by the trade press, and bringing our teams into a new collective dimension are also very encouraging achievements.

2025, a new year, new projects? Can you tell us about them?

For this second year, we're aiming higher by expanding the collective to new stores, launching new event formats, and sourcing new technologies. Focus and growth are the key words of our roadmap. We're working on developing our own training program and are committed to staying innovative and connected.
